Union Tank Car
Company has purchased the Plas-Chem line of protective
coatings and paints from East Texas Coatings, Inc.
April 17, 2000 - Chicago, IL - Union
Tank Car Company has purchased the Plas-Chem line of
protective coatings and paints from East Texas Coatings, Inc.
Frank D. Lester, Union Tank Car president, made the
announcement. Plas-Chem coating formulations include epoxies,
organic and inorganic zincs, urethanes, vinyl esters and
alkyds used to paint exteriors and to coat interiors of
railroad tank cars and plastics hopper cars. "An epoxy
tank coating used in caustic soda and molten sulfur cars is
the prize for Union Tank Car," explained Lester. "Plas-Chem
2310 has a long, successful track record and is competitive
from a VOC compliance perspective with all similar families of
coatings. But most important, it does not have the
health-suspect ingredients found in some competitor epoxy tank
car coatings." "The entire group of Plas-Chem
formulations melds, essentially without overlaps, with Union
Tank Car's line of Lithcote high-bake phenolic coatings. We
soon will be able to offer our customers an even more complete
line of proprietary coating applications in which Union Tank
Car has control of and takes responsibility for the material
as well as the installation. First, though, our North America
Coatings Department will investigate, analyze and improve
those Plas-Chem materials with the most immediate
applicability to our customers' needs," said Lester.
