The Tank Car Seminar teaches tank cars from “A to UTLX..Y..Z!”

For almost 30 years, Union Tank Car has been the preferred trainer for our customers’ employees. From loading rack personnel to top logistics decision-makers, The UTLX Tank Car Seminar continues to be Core 101 for Basic Tank Car Study. With thousands of successful graduates, almost everyone involved in the distribution function of a company that depends on bulk liquid rail transportation is an alumnus…and if not, they are probably scheduled for our next session!

Held each spring and fall, the seminar convenes employee-students for a comprehensive two-day curriculum that teaches virtually all aspects of tank cars. Starting with nomenclature and car classifications to build a working vocabulary of the jargon that is unique to the industry, The Seminar quickly moves into more technical issues, including engineering and construction, maintenance and operating features, and regulations and car qualification. UTLX product engineers provide the expert instruction, backing their lectures with teaching aids that students can really get their hands on. And, an afternoon visit to a UTLX Manufacturing plant reveals some of the manufacturing secrets and quality initiatives that build reliability into every UTLX car.

If you need to bolster your understanding of the why’s and how’s of tank cars, contact your regional sales and service team. They will reserve a seat for you at the next UTLX Tank Car Seminar.

The next two day seminar will be held September 24-25, 2008 in Alexandria. Please contact your sales rep for more information.

The Coatings and Linings Seminar

Union Tank Car's Coatings and Linings Seminar gives students an inside look at the protective systems applied to the interior of tank cars.  A technical lesson on the potentials and dangers of corrosion anchors the discussion.  The training covers the chemistry of precisely matching a coating system to the product the car is intended to carry.  It details the preparation of the tank steel as well as the spraying and curing of the coating.  And it explains the involved process of rubber-lining a car, as well.

Students enjoy the unique experience of entering tank cars to see what coating failure looks like, to witness corrosion damage, and to learn each step required to prepare and coat a car.

Union Tank Car chemical engineers teach the Coatings and Linings Seminar.

If you need to bolster your understanding of tank cars and/or tank car coating systems, contact your regional sales and service team.  They can provide a full scholarship for UTLX customers to one of the Union Tank Car Seminars.

The next two day seminar will be held June 11-12, 2008 at Muscatine, Iowa.  Please contact your sales rep for more information.
